Quitting work on a painting can be challenging.  This one, called “Red Mule”, sounds like it should be the title of a Zane Gray book  – or a bad whiskey in that book.  I rode a mule named “Jenny” on a pack trip in Northern California’s Russian Wilderness.  Other than being a little heady at times we got along fine.

Camped at Russian Lake for five days.  Water temp. of 40 degrees, lake is spring-fed and snowmelt.  It sure took the air out of you when swimming.  Trout were small but good.  Air smelled new, like it’d never been breathed before now.
